Call for Proposals

Receive up to $5000 in grants under our 'Local Initiatives Fund' to fund projects related to economic development in your community or region.

We are now accepting proposals/applications from First Nations and/or Aboriginal Non-Profit Organizations under our 1st Call for Proposals

NADF has received $75,000 in funding from FedNor for a Local Initiatives (LI) fund for the next fiscal year ending March 31, 2012 and you can receive a maximum of $5,000 for an individual project in your community.

To be considered, your project must show benefits to the local community and its members (see list of eligiblity requirements below).

Eligibility

Eligible activities could include:

  • Pre-feasibility studies
  • Research projects
  • Community ICT strategies and projects
  • Projects promoting innovation & new technology
  • E-Commerce promotion; development of on-line business services
  • Environmental assessment reports
  • Small-scale capital projects
  • Seminars/workshops
  • Marketing/promotional activities
  • Community tourism & cultural events, and/or other community-based activities that enhance the local economy etc.

Activities or applicants that are NOT eligible:

  • For-Profit Organizations
  • Projects which create a financial dependency on FedNor and/or Industry Canada or
  • Projects which require further FedNor and/or Industry Canada contributions to be completed successfully

 

Criteria for Project Eligibility

Your applications/proposals will be evaluated using the following “Criteria for Approval”:

  • The application must provide support of the project’s relationship to a community and/or regional strategic plan
  • The application must provide a plan for future independence from LIC funding
  • The project must enhance the ability for the region to create new jobs
  • Does the project develop more economic benefit for the community and the region as an opportunity for new business or expansion, enhancement of human resource skills and employer capacity?
  • Does the project introduce new technology and e-commerce into the region and create diversity in the regions economy?
  • The application must include an evaluation mechanism for assessing the success of the funding project with regard to job creation and economic impact
  • The application/proposal must identify other funding partners for a minimum of 10% of proposed budget and identify the contribution of each including whether it is financial or in-kind. Evidence of the commitment of other funding partners is required to approve funding to the project or proposal

Reporting

The successful applicant will be sent a letter of agreement to sign, to indicate acceptance of the terms and a final report must be received by NADF before you receive funding.

The agreement will outline the expectations of your project in terms of deliverables, communication plan and reporting obligations.

In general, projects approved by the NADF Board of Directors will be paid upon receipt of final report and financial statement including copies of invoices and cancelled cheques.

An advance payment may be approved in special circumstances where the success of your project depends upon it, but this would require approval by the NADF Board of Directors; therefore, such requests must be included in your proposal when it is submitted.
