The Working Partnerships Program was launched as part of the Building Aboriginal Economies Strategy in July 1998. The strategy has four key directions: removing barriers, creating opportunities, improving access to government programs and services, and promoting corporate/Aboriginal partnerships. The goal of the Partnership Development Advisor Program is to promote partnerships between the Aboriginal community and the corporate sector.
The Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (NADF) manages the Partnership Development Advisor position, funded through the Ontario Native Affairs Secretariat (ONAS).
The service objectives for the Partnership Development Advisor include:
To identify potential business partnership development opportunities within the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal business communities;
To facilitate and assist partnership development;
To develop relationships with potential business partners;
To identify resources to support joint venture and partnership development;
To identify and help to reduce barriers to the creation of Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal partnership development;
To communicate with relevant private sector and public sector stakeholders;
To liaise with government, private and public sectors to learn about and promote partnerships;
To develop marketing and promotional materials;
To promote and distribute resource kits for the corporate sector and Aboriginal communities and businesses; and
To advise on the development of, and assist in the delivery of, Working Partnership sponsored regional and sectoral workshops/forums on partnership and joint venture development.
